Ruble devaluation, sanctions, hyperinflation, decline of consumer demand had negative impact upon all segments of Russian food market. Segment of fresh fruits was the most affected by the named factors.
Russian fruits market is dominated by import despite quite impressive domestic harvests. According to official statistics, gross yield of fruits, berries and nuts in Russia constitutes about 3 million tons; compare: import of fresh fruits constitutes 3-4 million tons (bananas not considered). Fruit growing industry in Russia has a number of peculiarities: first, about 40-50% of gross yield of fruits falls on apples, second, significant part of harvested fruits is used to make juice, nectar and fruit puree.
